Position | Landscape Designer or Landscape Architect

We have routinely performed between 15-25 small and large designs each year, executing on a local LA specification and on in-house designs with design fees ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 and projects ranging from $20,000 to $300,000 mostly for residential and some for commercial applications. The goal is the take a design or design opportunity through the full experience of design consultation, installation and then ongoing maintenance - keeping the client’s needs and desires always in mind. We often partner with local LA firms on their specification and our understanding with this team members position helps in a smooth installation to achieve the design intent.

Reef Tropical has many exciting design projects and pending opportunities in the pipeline and a loyal maintenance account base with about 200 residential and commercial properties located in Ocean Reef Club and down into Monroe County with the intention of growing into Miami – Dade with the acquisition of a new operational facility in Florida City and synergies with our pool construction division.

We have a seasoned and committed maintenance operations manager who runs multiple crews. In addition, we have landscape account managers who will be on your team to care for, communicate with and serve these customers regularly. For our current accounts, there is opportunity to renovate existing landscapes. The account managers along with the sales coordinator will bring opportunities to you for design / installation consultation and execution. In addition, there are numerous existing and potential customers who are constructing new homes. We have long standing relationships with General Contractors, Home Architects and other Landscape Architects who will all present design and installation opportunities for our team to perform.

Any design project will be transitioned into a project management role to install the design performed directly by you or a trained account manager. You will have an experienced team of landscape installers lead by an operations manger who has over 25 years of experience managing crews, picking out local landscape material and installing a quality product to achieve the vision of the design.

The position will involve your guidance and leadership of an existing professional landscape designer who is a gifted draftsmen and artist. He has a formal education in landscape architecture and will partner with you to execute on ideas and projects. It will also require your guidance and coaching of 2-3 account managers who will have their eye on opportunities to upsell existing customers.

  4. Create valuable synergies amongst services lines (pool, landscape, construction)
  5. Practice diligent job costing for increased project profitability
  6. Improve project management best practices for project success
  7. Train staff and develop internal talent
  8. Increase client satisfaction
  9. Grow market share and service territory

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Create landscape plans or creative drawings with the help of a partner designer
    • Must have a formal education in landscape architecture with a focus on local horticulture
    • Ample experience with CAD and computer technology
  • Foster incoming sales leads for design, landscape installation and tree work
    • Sales experience and track record of success is highly valued but not required
  • Set up meetings with clients through the assistance of a sales coordinator, customer service team and account managers
  • Articulate some ideas and present portfolios of personal and company projects
  • Upsell existing service lines if opportunity presents
  • Execute on project management with sold landscape jobs to ensure customer satisfaction and payment
  • Be available to help with urgent matter (i.e. work for the crews)
  • Emulate constant professionalism as an example for the team
  • Create an opportunistic and healthy work environment
  • Act as a steward for the Reef Tropical brand, finances and integrity of the organization
  • Help guide team members through industry difficulties, estimating and sales facilitation
  • Project management – help from Operations
    • Organize and lead execution teams with people from internal departments and external subcontractors
    • Search for and vet subcontractors who can help with project goal attainment
    • Manage change orders and upsell service lines including maintenance
    • Understand client expectations and articulate them regularly to execution team
    • Communicate regularly with clients to provide a top-notch customer experience
    • Meet job profitability goals – help from Finance Department and Operations Director
    • Understand job constraints and budgets originally set in estimate
    • Regularly report on actual cost of materials and labor

Compensation:

Base Salary: $70,000- $80,000 starting and depending on experience

Sales Incentive

One-time projects:

2.00% of revenue on all owned deals won and invoiced (deals closed and installed) in Landscape Service Lines

1.50% of revenue on all deals (jobs) won and invoiced (deals closed and installed) by designated junior associates

1.00% on pool construction design deals won (signed contract and deposit) pre-approved by ownership Scope of work pertains to facilitating the deal to closure (meeting with client, basic consultation, helping with basic design, communicate ideas to client and help follow up)

New Maintenance accounts including fertilization, irrigation checks, or quarterly pest outsourced:

  • 5.00% year one
  • 3.50% year two
  • 2.00% year three
